The home mode won't trigger any motion sensors or door/window sensors because they are disarmed. However, anything else posing a security threat will send an alert. The devices armed by default in home mode are:
 

• Smoke Sensor
• Flood Sensor
• CO Detector
• Glass Break Sensors

These 4 device categories are always armed, regardless of the house mode that is currently enabled.

In away mode, all the security sensors are armed in order to ensure that no door or window is left open and the entire house is safeguarded. The devices armed by default in away mode are:
 

• Smoke Sensor
• Flood Sensor
• CO Detector
• Glass Break Sensors
• Motions Sensors
• Door/Window Sensors
• Cameras
• Sirens
• Other

In away mode, cooling and heating devices are shut down. 

In night mode, the house is entirely secured and, if anything happens, you will be alerted. The devices armed by default are:
 

• Smoke Sensor
• Flood Sensor
• CO Detector
• Glass Break Sensors
• Motions Sensors
• Door/Window Sensors
• Sirens

Night mode can help your home save energy by dimming or shutting off all the lights, and changing the thermostat settings to reduce heating or cooling. 

In vacation mode, the entire house is armed. The appliances armed are the following:
 

• Smoke Sensor
• Flood Sensor
• CO Detector
• Glass Break Sensors
• Motions Sensors
• Door/Window Sensors
• Cameras
• Sirens

To activate a house mode, click the corresponding card on the Vera dashboard and wait 30 seconds for the process to finish. You only have to wait when switching from "home" mode - this timeout can be edited via the house modes customization screen which is detailed below.
 

House modes are not limited to their default behavior. They are merely an example setup in order to show the multitude of ways to configure the system. To change the system, click the right angle bracket  next to "My Modes." This will redirect you to the configuration page of the preset modes.
 

Suppose you wish to configure the night mode:
 

1. Click the toggle button below the house mode so that it switches from "Default" to "Custom"

 
    2.  Next, arm or disarm the sensors of your choice
 

Note: The user can change the state of a device regardless of the "Custom" or "Default" settings
 

     
3.  Select the action to perform in case an armed sensor is tripped ("Record" or "Off"). The 2 categories of devices listed here are Sirens and Cameras -  You can basically trigger the recording based on the sensors you chose to arm in step 2 if they trip.
 

     
4.  The next step is to choose the Vera users who should be notified when a sensor is tripped or a door/window is opened 
 

    
  5.  Select the action to perform when the house mode is selected: No Change, On, or Off. The device categories listed here are HVAC, Door Locks, Dimmable Lights and Switches.
 

    
 6.  Additionally, you may change the wait-time that it takes to switch from home to any other mode and the wait-time before Vera reports a motion sensor being tripped.
     
The default wait-time for both is 30 seconds.
